(PLTM) - After serving as President of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) for some 17 years, Mr. Carvin Malone will not be returning to this post. Malone made the announcement this evening, Sunday, October 23, where he said that he will not be contesting at the party's upcoming internal elections, scheduled for November 30th.

"...There comes to every man, a moment to decide! Today, I announce that I would not stand for re-election to the post of President of the Virgin Islands Party at the November 30th internal elections," he said in a statement this evening.

BVI Platinum News then contacted Mr. Malone to ascertain if this means he has ambitions to run for political office in the next general elections.

"I cannot say yes or no because I have not made any determination on that," he said.

In his statement, Malone said that he will render assistance to the new executive committee.

"The opportunity now exist for capable, willing, experienced and able persons to offer their talents and to be effective in forwarding the principles and aims of the Virgin islands Party and thereby building a better Virgin Islands for all."

He said: "I would assist the newly elected Executive Committee members in whatever capacity deemed appropriate and I will continue to do my part in, “Making the Virgin Islands the Best that it can be.”

Meanwhile, he said that as President he is pleased with the conduct of the November 30th 2016 elections--the 12 Aims and 3 Principles that are stated in the Constitution of the Virgin Islands Party.

"I am amazed and challenged that additional experienced and capable persons continue to find it personally convenient to be mere critical spectators at a time when the country need them most," he said.

"Our capable and experienced citizens remain non participatory at a time when National and International events will definitely reshape the Political, Social and Economic landscape of the British Virgin Islands."

He briefly recalled his experience as President.

"I have served as President of the Virgin Islands Party for over 17 years and during the period have twice initiated the review of the VIP Constitution and have conducted 4 General Elections and 1 By-election. It would be descriptive enough to remark that I have seen the best of times and I have also witnessed the worst of times. I would not trade my experience for anyone’s," he said.

Malone further noted that for 17 of 45 years since the charter of the Virgin Islands Party, he worked with 62 VIP officials either in office or on the campaign trail.

"For 15 of the 17 years as President, I was privileged to work with Hon. Ralph T. O’Neal in his capacity as Chairman. The lessons that I have learnt are immeasurable; priceless!"

He added, "What is most pleasing to me is that over the same span of 17 years I have worked with members of the administrative arm of the executive committee -- members that are second-to none and are best described as hardworking, dedicated, honest and committed to country-above self."
