(PLTM) - On Friday, October 14, Flow announced that a number of their new LTE cell sites are live, well ahead of schedule.
The company stated that early tests are showing speeds of more than 40Mbps, with the full commercial launch scheduled for November, where speeds will be even greater in certain areas of the Islands.
This announcement comes a day after Communications and Works Minister, Hon. Mark Vanterpool, issued a warning to telecoms providers-Flow, CCT and Digicel, that they must provide better internet service to consumers in the Virgin Islands by early 2017. He said that he will personally be watching the process.
According to Flow, the award of the company's requested mobile spectrum bands - 700Mhz and 1900Mhz, by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) in August, means that Flow will have the best coverage possible and the Flow technical teams have been busy installing the equipment required to complete the upgrade of its existing mobile 4G service to 4GLTE.
"The new 4GLTE mobile data network brings their mobile offering in the BVI in line with other world-class LTE markets in the US, Europe and in the Caribbean markets where the service has already been deployed by Flow in Antigua and Cayman Islands," the company stated.
"Smart-device users in those markets are currently experiencing the true potential of the 4GLTE networks allowing faster data speeds no matter where they are."
Meanwhile, on the subject of the latest test results, Sarah Graham, Marketing Launch Manager commented, "our early tests are indicating speeds of more than 40Mbps. With speeds like these, Flow customers in the BVI will enjoy the ability to stream movies, download music and search online almost instantaneously."
"Further work is scheduled to be carried out that will optimise the network still further, so speeds will increase between now and the launch in November.”
Tim Ringsdore, Managing Director of Flow said that Flow is delighted to further improve the mobile experience their customers.
"Our 4G LTE network will provide an even better coverage, better indoor signal penetration for some buildings and areas, and allow a much faster download or streaming experience no matter where you are.”
Ringsdore added that they are certain that their customers will really appreciate the upgraded experience this investment will provide, which in conjunction with the further investments they are making to improve the broadband network, will provide an unmatched customer experience for Flow customers in the Virgin Islands.
"We look forward to our full commercial launch in early November where we will be offering extremely valuable solutions, allowing our customers the best possible mobile experience in the Islands," Ringsdore stated.
