Zedikihi Innis at court, October, 2016

(PLTM) - Zedikihi Innis, who pleaded guilty to two robberies which took place in the streets of Road Town, hours apart on the night of February 28, 2015, was spared further time behind bars. He was sentenced today, Friday, October 7 before a High Court Judge, who sentenced him to time served. He was also ordered to attend the Community Mental Health for treatment. Innis, who is believed to be of unsound mind, had pleaded to two counts of robbery on Monday, October 3 in the High Court. Innis has been at Her Majesty's Prison since his arrest back in 2015. Prior to sentencing, his lawyer, Mr. Dave Marshall reminded the court that his client was off his medication at the time the offences were committed. Hence, a Psychiatrist was present at the sentencing hearing. Prosecutor Leslie Ann Faulkner in laying out the facts, indicated that complainant #1, Ms. Kishma Phillips was outside her workplace Grand Marche on Waterfront Drive waiting on her boyfriend to pick her up. It was during this time that Innis approached her and asked, “What the f*** you doing here and where is your boyfriend?” In fear, the woman told him that her boyfriend was on his way. Innis then told her to call him or she is going to get killed. The woman said Innis was armed with a silver blade knife and instructed her to empty her bag. He also told the woman that he wanted "some wife". Innis took her bag and a back-pack and made good his escape on foot. In her bag there were cash and a Kindle Fire, among other valuable items. Later that evening, Delroy Taylor was at work in the area of the Ward’s building. Innis came in the area and asked Taylor why he was looking at him. Innis then approached Taylor, placed a knife to his side and removed his wallet from his pocket. He then took off. Taylor had cash and other valuable items in the wallet. Responding to the reports, police spotted Innis the same night on the road and took him into custody. He had on his person the back-pack, a woman’s handbag and the wallet. The robbery victims identified their property at the police station. In the lower court, he received a medical evaluation. To this end, his lawyer noted that while he was fit to plea, it doesn’t mean that he was mentally fit on the night of the incident, since he was not on medication at the time.
