(PLTM) - World renowned cook and Executive Chef of the famous Solomon & Kuff in West Harlem, New York, Christopher Faulkner is set to feature at the 4th annual BVI Food Fete in the British Virgin Islands.

Faulkner boasts a rich BVI history and has noted that it was in fact in the BVI where he learned to fish, as well as to season and smoke seafood.

Speaking on behalf of Premier Hon. Dr. Orlando Smith at the launch of the BVI Food Fete last Friday, September 23, Junior Minister of Tourism, Hon. Archibald Christian expressed satisfaction in witnessing BVI talent at its best, succeeding elsewhere and returning to impart what he has learned over his years.

“It will be interesting to see what he has to offer, having been influenced by his Caribbean-American heritage, as well as his new experiences from living and working in places as diverse as West Africa, Australia and Europe.”

While on island, Chef Faulkner along with other foreign and local chefs will make special visits to the students from the culinary programmes at the various schools in the Territory to conduct sessions and give advice.

A number of lucky students will also accompany the chefs to the Barefoot Gourmet Soiree on Norman Island on October 30 in the capacity of personal sous chefs.

Hon. Christian noted that the initiative is in tune with the ‘One BVI' awareness programme, promoted by the Ministry of Tourism, where one of its main aim is to showcase to residents the importance of tourism.

“This is one move to ensure the sustainability of the BVI as a destination for unique and authentic culinary experience.”

He added, “With all that’s happening in the field, I am optimistic that the future of the BVI’s tourism is bright.”
