(PLTM) - The economic situation hitting residents is so gloomy that there is hardly anyone who is not broke, according to Hon. Andrew Fahie, First District Representative and Opposition Member.

"Everybody broke, it’s a challenge with the economy, just about everybody broke. It’s the worst I have ever seen this country in terms of money. So everybody trying to see how we can do it, and it’s the first time in my life I am seeing that, in the economic climate that we have," Hon. Fahie said in the House of Assembly.

He said that the banks also continue to take advantage of persons, and elected officials are not doing enough to represent their cause.

"No serious representation have been made to the banks to say 'listen to me, you have to make some adjustments in your…given the economic climate, it must be done. Because I happen to be in other businesses where I see the banks take advantage of our people and there is nobody to turn to," he said.

"They say that they have regulators, but I cannot see where…"

Hon. Fahe said that even the young men cannot benefit from bush cutting work.

"The condition our people are in, and they have pride and they not saying anything…I am not saying the government is at fault for everything....They use to have the little bush cutting, but even to that basically gone. I have so much bush in my district , growing up all cross the road, it’s a cave, you cannot even see the sky," Hon. Fahie said.

The Opposition Member implied that some crime may be linked to the economic struggles of the people.

"I don’t advocate for crime but what else you expect, our country losing hope and you cannot afford for that to happen. Some will get up and get on Fahie for what I am talking about; you don’t have to study me, just listen to the temperature in the country, it on the verge of blowing because a hungry man is an angry man," he said.

Hon.Fahie also added that it is hurting him that locals cannot be appointed to certain positions.

"Our people are trying their best to become qualified, certified they are yearning for more knowledge, they want to be better. But there seems to be some blockage in our country for them. Don't come to tell me about the some who rude because very country have them," he said.
