Other Countries 'Copy Cat' BVI Food Fete - Tourism Director [Photos Included]

The British Virgin Islands is not the only one who wishes to capitalize on culinary tourism in the region, as other countries have now or intend to adopt a very similar approach to the industry.

Supposedly, after analyzing the success of the monthly activities in the BVI, where the Territory merges travel with local delicacies in an ultimate entertainment package, other countries are now revamping their own activities to something identical.

“Copy cats? I dare say yes. They’re following the BVI trend,” said the Director of Tourism, Ms. Sharon Flax-Brutus during her remarks at the launch of the 4th annual BVI Food Fete at Callwood’s Rum Distillery in Cane Garden Bay last evening, September 23rd 2016.

(PLTM) - Notably, earlier this week, Barbados announced they are re-branding their culinary weekend to a full month of activities in November, which is the same time the BVI Food fete is held. Neighbouring United States Virgin Islands (USVI) also recently expanded their culinary offerings and have indicated that in 2017, they will also be venturing into a month of activities.

“The competition is growing,” said the Director, who noted that it is important that all stakeholders work closely together to develop the BVI Food Fete.

“Culinary tourism offers the visitors and residents an authentic taste of place. We must focus on keeping our month of activities unique, so we as a destination are true to ourselves and we stand out.”

The month will see a range of themed activities on different islands within the BVI, beginning on October 30th to November 27th.

The events will also highlight and showcase some of the Territory’s most talented chefs and their tasty custom-made cuisines.

The event was attended by the Junior Minister of Tourism, Hon. Archibald Christian and Second District Representative, Hon. Melvin 'Mitch' Turnbull.
