(PLTM) - Irone Lafranco, former employee of VI Pet Planet admitted to his boss that he stole a number of items from the store, after denying the accusation several times.

Lafranco, a native of the Philippines, pleaded guilty to the charge of theft in his appearance at the Magistrate’s Court earlier today, September 9th 2016.

Allegedly, sometime between March 20th and April 20th 2016, the accused stole items from the store amounting to $729.25. The items incuded brushes, scissors, aprons, bandannas, clipper oil and clipper guards.

The court heard that after the owner of the company realised several things were turning up missing, she decided to ask the defendant about the items, who then stated that he had no knowledge of them.

It was noted that Lafranco was the only employee of the establishment at the time.

After missing other items, the owner asked the lone employee again and he rendered the same response.

Police was summoned to the scene and began their investigations into the matter. In questioning the lone employee, he informed officers that he would like to speak to his boss one last time.

The court heard that Lafranco then came clean, informing the store owner that he had indeed taken the items and knew of their whereabouts.

He was subsequently arrested and charged.

In mitigation, the accused told the court that he had stolen the items to cut his own hair.

“I took the clippers to cut my own hair. I didn’t take it to groom dogs. I cut my own hair.”

He was placed on $50,000 bail with one surety and is ordered to report to the Road Town Police Station every Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm, in addition to surrendering his passport.

He will make another appearance on September 21st for sentencing.
