(PLTM) - The Magistrate’s Court has found Glenville Callwood guilty on three charges brought against him---common assault, the use of threatening language and being armed with an offensive weapon. The court handed down its verdict when the accused made an appearance yesterday, September 1st. Prior the court’s decision, during mitigation, Callwood begged the court for leniency, stating that at the time when the incidents occurred, he was young, stupid and hotheaded. He explained, “I'm trying to better myself; I'm trying to finish with school. I'm trying to take care of my anger management. I am occupying my time more beneficial to my life. Please be lenient on your sentence.” Magistrate Tamia Richards, who presided over the court proceedings, disclosed that the court is leaning towards a custodial sentence. She expressed to the accused that his actions are serious offences that warrant the court to exercise its rights. “When we decide we are going to be a menace to a police officer, whether or not they are working, and a menace to a young woman with a baby in her hands, I cannot condone this.” She further stated, “I have to make sure you are punished, for others who dream to do it too.” According to the details of the matter, Callwood, wielded a knife at an off duty officer of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force and his family on May 16th 2014. Allegedly, the officer and his family made a stop at First Caribbean Bank in Road Town to do some transactions, which resulted in him being approached and verbally assaulted by the accused. The court heard that Callwood told the officer, “You police think you bad; you almost lost your life last night. Y’all cops think y’all bad.” The accused then retrieved a pocket knife from his pocket and held it directly in front the officer’s face and said, “You see this, you see this, you almost lost you life…” It was also noted that this all occurred in the presence of the officer’s wife and their 4 month old baby, who were sitting at the back of the officer’s vehicle. Allegedly, out of deep fear for her family’s life, the wife asked the accused to stop, to which he responded by putting the knife in her face and said, “Talk to your man. He almost lost his life. Y’all cops think y’all bad.”

Callwood was remanded to prison to await sentencing on October 5th.
